Photo contest, then a play
Gitana Productions says two projects it has going are designed to bring attention to the "many extraordinary yet ordinary people who enrich our lives in the St. Louis region."
Photos: Entries in the "Eye On The Sparrow: The World Within St. Louis" juried photography competition are due March 31. Winning photographs will be part of an exhibit that will tour the region later this year. For entry details, visit www.gitana-inc.org.
"Some heroes are like sparrows, people of simple means and humble backgrounds. An unsung and perhaps unlikely hero might be the friendly bus driver, a caretaker, someone from a different culture or even a homeless person who encourages others. We hope to capture their images and stories in this exhibit," said Cecilia Nadal, executive director of Gitana Productions, a not-for-profit arts and education group.
A play: Gitana will produce "Eye On the Sparrow: The World Within St. Louis" based on the stories of diverse St. Louisans. The play, by Lee Patton Chiles, will be performed at Saint Louis University from May 21 through June 6.
According to a press release, each photo submission must include a 500-word description of the person in the photo, contact information for the photographer, details about why the person in the picture is a "sparrow" and their neighborhood.
