St. Charles County: Crisis Nursery hosts school supply drive

Saint Louis Crisis Nursery is sponsoring a Back to School Drive to collect school supplies for children in need.

Donations are accepted at each of the five Crisis Nursery locations through Sept. 15 and at Big Dawg School House collection bins at Shop 'n Save locations through Aug. 15.

Last year's drive collected school supplies for nearly 500 children served by the organization.

"Many families struggle to provide the basics for their children," said DiAnne Mueller, CEO of Crisis Nursery. "We know that school clothes and new supplies can really boost a child's confidence and excitement about returning to school. These donations help children feel good about themselves."

Wish lists include new backpacks, sneakers, socks, underwear, fall clothing and store gift cards.

School supplies such as binders, notebooks, calculators, loose-leaf paper, pens, pencils and art supplies such as markers, crayons and colored pencils also are needed, as are khaki pants and white, collared shirts and school uniforms.

Unwrapped items may be dropped off at Shop 'n Save locations or:

- Crisis Nursery Saint Charles, 315 First Capitol Drive

- Crisis Nursery West, 330 S. Fourth St. in St. Charles

- Crisis Nursery Wentzville, 700 Medical Drive

The nonprofit Crisis Nursery aims to prevent child abuse and neglect by providing a short-term, safe haven for children, birth through age 12, whose families are faced with an emergency or crisis.
