Big crowd turns out to see celebs serve for St. Louis Crisis Nursery
CRISIS AVERTED: Plaza Frontenac was hopping Thursday night as more than 800 people turned out to dine at Cardwell's and Canyon Café on behalf of the St. Louis Crisis Nursery.
The bar at Center Court created by Fleming's Prime Steak House with proceeds going to the nursery also added to the lively atmosphere.
While personalities from radio, TV, sports, print media, politics and the corporate world fumbled around as servers - the Crisis Nursery's 20th Annual Celebrity Waitresses' & Waiters' Night event raked in more than $70,000 to save babies and keep kids safe.
My personal thanks to Thom Sehnert of Annie Gunn's for forking over $100 to buy eight raffle tickets from this columnist, and to Millie Cain who gave me $25 for the cause. But even with their help, I couldn't hold a candle to the Celebrity Server of the Year, David Kowach of Wells Fargo Advisors, who raised $8,250.
Don Gerber of Gerber Chapel came in second and Jim Theiss, prez of Centric, rounded out the top three.
Rams running back Stephen Jackson and some teammates were spotted enjoying dinner, while former Blues defenseman and current Philadelphia Flyers player Chris Pronger was also seen having dinner nearby.
Crisis Nursery board member Tim Hogenkamp and his wife Ruth were the big winners of the night's raffle, scoring a week's stay at the fabulous Pelican Resort in St. Maartin in the Caribbean. Lead sponsors of the event, Hardee's and THF Realty, headed a long list of sponsors and supporters.
Event co-chairs were Keith Carver, Teri Beth Gooch, Karen Barclay Hughes, Dudley and Beth McCarter, Mark and Elizabeth Niemeyer and Lisa Parker. Vice-chairs were Stephanie Hampton Boeglin, John Haigler, Carol Hemker, Michael Henderson, Earl Jones, Penny Rogers and Phyllis Weiss.
