Airport Expansion Wins Regional Excellence Award

St. Louis Construction News and Review has awarded a Regional Excellence Award in the Infrastructure category for the $1.059 billion Lambert-St. Louis International Airport expansion project. The project was managed by the SPK Joint Venture, a collaboration between Sverdrup (Jacobs Engineering), Parsons Corp. and Kwame Building Group.

The massive expansion project contained more than 115 different projects, including a 9,000 foot runway and two 9,000-foot taxiways. These additions increased the airport’s ability to function during inclement weather, improved traveler safety and minimized weather-related flight delays. The 1,400-foot Lindbergh Boulevard tunnel, the new Pattonville Elementary School, and the relocation of parts of Lindbergh Boulevard and Natural Bridge Road were also included.

Completed on-time and on-budget, the project employed more than 550 companies and 13,500 employees.

Regional Excellence Awards are given to those who have shown exceptional work in both design and construction, and recognize the successful cooperation of owners, designers and contractors. Community impact is also taken into consideration. This is the 17th year St. Louis Construction News and Review has given the awards.
