ST. LOUIS, MO – The project management team of Kwame Building Group (KWAME) and NorthStar have completed work on the new $236 million SSM St. Clare Health Center in Fenton, Missouri. KWAME is a construction management firm based in St. Louis.

The 430,000-square-foot SSM St. Clare Health Center is the first new hospital to open in St. Louis County in nearly 35 years.  The 154-bed medical center, which opened in March, is located on a 54-acre campus just west of St. Louis at I-44 and Highway 141. St. Clare Health Center replaced SSM St. Joseph Hospital of Kirkwood, which was built in 1939.

As a member of the project management team, KWAME coordinated design and construction activities and provided support for procurement and installation of the medical equipment, systems and furnishings.

“We were honored to join this distinguished and experienced team on such an innovative healthcare project,” said Joshua Randall, KWAME vice-president.

Early in the project, a team of employees, physicians, patient advocates, architects and other partners developed a hospital design process for SSM St. Clare to drive innovation and improvements in the patient experience.

“Our vision was to reinvent the health care experience from the ground up, to achieve breakthrough results in areas such as clinical outcomes, patient safety and patient, physician and employee satisfaction,” said Sherry Hausmann, president of SSM St. Clare Health Center.

The new health center offers a 24-hour emergency department and comprehensive medical/surgical services including heart, cancer, orthopedics and women’s services. The design features natural daylight, outdoor views and courtyards for patients and staff to connect with nature. Other innovations include an electronic medication administration system, decentralized nursing pods and private patient rooms with family accommodations.

Hammel, Green and Abrahamson, Inc. (HGA) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin was the architect on the project, and Alberici Constructors of St. Louis, Missouri was the general contractor.

Kwame Building Group is a pure program and construction management firm providing estimating, scheduling, project planning, value engineering and other project management services as an independent advocate for owners and developers.  Public and private sector projects include educational facilities, major airports nationwide, light-rail systems, hospitals and government facilities.  KWAME is headquartered in St. Louis with division offices in Dallas, New Orleans, Phoenix, Pittsburgh and Seattle.
