Kwame Foundation Golf Tournament raises $65,000 for higher education

ST. LOUIS, MO – Kwame Building Group (KWAME) of St. Louis raised $65,000 during the sixth annual Kwame Foundation Golf Tournament held in August at the Norman K. Probstein Golf Course at Forest Park in St. Louis. More than 100 golfers participated in the tournament, including St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay and Missouri Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder.
The Kwame Foundation endows scholarships that improve educational opportunities for minorities at various higher education institutions across the country. The Kwame Foundation provides approximately $150,000 a year in scholarships and grants and has committed more than $675,000 toward its goal to endow $1 million in scholarships. The Kwame Foundation also has developed an active local mentoring program for St. Louis Public School students.
“We help ensure a stronger minority presence in the future workforce by helping minority students achieve their higher educational goals,” said Tony Thompson, president and CEO of KWAME.
All proceeds from the golf tournament support the Foundation’s scholarships at Harris-Stowe State University, St. Louis University, Barnes-Jewish Hospital School of Nursing, the Interdenominational Theological Center, the University of Kansas, the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the University of Missouri at Columbia, Ranken College, St. Louis Community College, Washington University, Webster University, Fontbonne University, and Maryville University.
