Harris-Stowe Early Childhood Center
The dramatic 47,000-square-foot Harris-Stowe Early Childhood Center, designed by the internationally recognized Adrian Luchini, features a curved white roof, extensive blue glass, translucent bronze panels and a large open courtyard with a colorful sculpture and garden-like playground. The center houses high-tech audio and video systems and mirrored one-way glass for students and parents to observe children from the higher education classrooms. Amenities include a parents’ library and education room, a computer lounge for students, a multipurpose room with full kitchen, smart board technology in all classrooms and a large multimedia classroom/lecture hall.

The university is seeking Gold LEED certification for the project, which features a highly energy-efficient mechanical system, a rain garden, pervious pavement and play surfaces to slow storm water, and a recycled rubber playground surface.

SSM St. Clare Health Center
The SSM St. Clare Health Center is the first new hospital to open in St. Louis County in nearly 35 years. The 154-bed medical center offers a 24-hour emergency department and comprehensive medical/surgical services including heart, cancer, orthopedics and women’s services. The design features natural daylight, outdoor views and courtyards for patients and staff to connect with nature. Other innovations include an electronic medication administration system, decentralized nursing pods and private patient rooms with family accommodations.
