Holiday Luncheon Raises $105,000 for Saint Charles Crisis Nursery

$105,000 to support the organization’s “Healing Hearts Program,” which provides art and play therapy to children in need of emotional healing. The annual event was held November 6, 2009 at The Columns in St. Charles
Nearly 400 guests enjoyed lunch and lavish holiday décor at The Columns in St. Charles. The event raised $70,000 and the UPS Foundation presented an additional check for $25,000. Shop ‘n Save CEO Marlene Gebhard surprised Crisis Nursery by presenting a check for $10,000 raised through an in-store promotion.
Local designers competed in a holiday tabletop decorating contest. The “Best in Show for Table Decor” award went to The White Hare of O’Fallon, MO. Local bakeries also put their skills to the test in a creative cakes contest. Winner of the “Best in Show for Cake Design” was Stacey’s Cakes of St. Charles.
Crisis Nursery honored Jack Banas, one of the original founders of Crisis Nursery and the St. Charles County Prosecutor, with the annual “Guardian Angel Award.” St. Joseph Health Center received the “Children’s Champion Award.”
“Jack Banas is a wonderful child advocate,” said DiAnne Mueller, CEO of Saint Louis Crisis Nursery. “He not only helped found Crisis Nursery, he goes above and beyond on a daily basis to help at-risk children in the St. Charles community.”
"For the past 17 years, St. Joseph Health Center has been a true Children's Champion and partner of the Crisis Nursery,” Mueller said. “They have truly supported at-risk children in the St. Charles community."
The Crisis Nursery, committed to the prevention of child abuse and neglect, is an independent, not-for-profit agency that provides a short-term, safe haven for children, birth through age 12, whose families are faced with an emergency or crisis. Located at five sites, the Crisis Nursery provides 24-hour care, 365 days a year, to children in the greater St. Louis, St. Charles, Southern Illinois, and surrounding regions.
