St. Louis Crisis Nursery, making Christmas a reality for many of the children served by the organization.
“Some children would not have received a Christmas gift this year if not for generous donations like these,” said DiAnne Mueller, CEO of St. Louis Crisis Nursery, which provides a 24-hour safe haven for children whose families are in crisis.
Shop ‘n Save delivered nine van loads of toys to Crisis Nursery for distribution to children at the nursery’s five locations in St. Louis and St. Charles counties. Shop ‘n Save gathered more than 5,000 new toys this year through collection drives at their stories and cooperative on-air and online promotions with radio stations 92.3 WIL and 101 ESPN Radio.
Lincoln Industrial, a St. Louis-based manufacturer of precision lubrication equipment and components, collected money throughout the year to donate more than $1,600 worth of toys.
Crisis Nursery has experienced a 25 percent increase in calls for help this year as a result of the struggling economy. Calls for emergency care come from every community in the St. Louis region, according to Mueller. Crisis Nursery served more than 6,800 children in 2009 and provided counseling and support to thousands of families.
“More and more families are finding they have nowhere else to turn,” said Mueller.
The Crisis Nursery, committed to the prevention of child abuse and neglect, is an independent, not-for-profit agency that provides a short-term, safe haven for children, birth through age 12, whose families are faced with an emergency or crisis.
