Ameristar Casino St. Charles Selects Walton Construction St. Louis for $240 Million Expansion Project

ST. LOUIS – Ameristar Casino – St. Charles has selected general contractor Walton Construction of St. Louis to build a $240 million expansion, including a four-diamond quality hotel, conference center and parking garage. Walton has begun construction on the Ameristar expansion and is expected to complete the project by late 2007. The project will create 400 union construction jobs and add more than 100 new jobs to Ameristar’s workforce.
The Ameristar Casino – St. Charles expansion plan includes a 25-story, 400-room all-suite hotel with a 7,000-square-foot full-service day spa, a workout facility and indoor/outdoor pool, a 2,350-space parking garage and 55,000 square feet of meeting and banquet facilities. The all-suite oversized hotel rooms will include 10 king spa suites and two Presidential suites.
The hotel and garage exterior were designed to emulate the turn-of-the-century historical architecture of St. Charles’ Historic Main Street. The hotel tower incorporates the time-worn quality of aged brick and decorative ornamental cast moldings indigenous to the area’s historic structures.
The hotel entrance includes an expansive glass-covered walkway and a grand canopy hand-forged from custom ironwork and glass.
Last November, Walton completed an $8.7 million soil and site improvement project on the casino’s 52-acre property. Before the Ameristar – St. Charles expansion could begin, soil improvements and grounds modification were necessary to create a sound foundation at the casino’s riverfront location. Walton worked with Hayward Baker to perform Vibrocompaction, a soil-improvement technique designed to prepare, densify and improve soil condition to withstand substantial weight.
