Steve Biederman, President of Walton Construction St. Louis, Signs on as Corporate Walk Chairman for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk

 Urges local businesses to take the first step to help a good cause
ST. LOUIS, MO – Steve Biederman, President of Walton Construction St. Louis, has signed on as Corporate Chairman of the 2008 Light the Night Walk for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Gateway Chapter. Light the Night is an annual fundraising event held each fall to raise money for cancer research and patient services.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society holds walks each fall in approximately 240 communities across the United States and Canada. Participants carry illuminated balloons – white for survivors, red for supporters, and gold to remember a loved one, – to honor and commemorate lives touched by blood cancer.
This year the walk will take place on September 12th, with walk locations in both Forest Park and St. Peters City Centre Park. The night’s festivities include live entertainment, activities for children and refreshments.
“Light the Night is much more than just your typical walk,” said Biederman. “It is truly a celebration of life and remembrance. It is also a great way to build a spirit of caring and cooperation among employees. I am honored to serve as the Corporate Walk Chairman and encourage commitment from local businesses throughout St. Louis and surrounding areas.
Last year, teams of employees representing close to 60 companies participated. Their efforts, combined with 150 local friends and family teams, raised over $600,000 for those with leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. This year the goal is to recruit 100 corporate teams.
“We hope to make this year’s event a record breaker,” said Judy Swiecicki, Executive Director, Gateway Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. “Funds raised through corporate and individual contributions will provide for local patient financial assistance and research endeavors. We are very excited to have Steve Biederman on board to help raise awareness about the Light the Night Walk.”
Biederman will be hosting a Corporate Walk Breakfast on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at The Lodge in Des Peres.
